Physical Description: Phoenix is 6", with an average build (despite broad shoulders). He has black hair - which would be fairly long if he wore it down, but he keeps it styled in spikes - and blue eyes.
Personality: The word 'idealist' describes Phoenix in a lot of ways, though it isn't blind idealism. It's tempered by a heavy dose of sarcasm. However, he still remains open and approachable to people, and, as a rule, makes friends easily, remaining loyal to them unless they do something to break that trust. He's also quite spirited in an argument or a debate - though winning is less important to him than making the other person he's talking to see the truth of the matter in question. He's also a very determined person - once he has set a goal, he won't let it go until he's accomplished it.
Abilities/Strengths/Weaponry: Phoenix's biggest strengths are his intelligence and ability to think on his feet. While he was never at the top of his university classes, he's still quite bright. He's learned to think outside the box, and this is likely his single biggest strength.
His boss has suggested he carry a weapon occasionally, but he's never taken her up on the suggestion.
Weaknesses: Phoenix can be too trusting for his own good at times, primarily because of his tendency to want to see the best in everyone. He also has a tendency to rush into actions first and then ask questions later, which tends to make him fall headfirst into dangerous situations.
He can also be a bit lazy about paperwork and things of that nature - he's been meaning to read a few more law books, but somehow they never get read.
Also, Nick isn't a trained fighter, nor is he really inclined to learn.
History:
Phoenix was the only child of parents who moved from Navarre to Epidarus when he was a baby, before the plague broke out. His father opened a ship-repair business, which, while never large, was successful enough to draw the attention and business of several upper-class families. One of these families was the Edgeworth family. Phoenix's father and the head of the Edgeworth family became friends, as did their two sons. Young Miles and Phoenix spent a lot of time playing games on the shop floor while their fathers talked. This wouldn't last forever, however. Mr. Edgeworth was murdered a year after they left, and it was some years later before he saw his childhood friend again.
His parents pushed him to take the University entrance exams when he came of age - while he never attended the prestigious academy, he had always been a good student - but he refused. He had an interest in art and the desire to pursue that, and for the next two years he traveled across the southern isles, scratching out a living by taking odd jobs here and there, and spending his time sketching or painting at night. During the course of these two years, he met a pretty girl who immediately took an interest in him. She gave him a small bottle necklace as a gift the first time they met, calling it a symbol of their love. However, six months after they met, his girlfriend attempted to murder him after he refused to return the necklace. It turns out this necklace was an important piece of evidence in a murder she had committed, and she had given it to him as a means of hiding it. Needless to say, this ended the relationship.
It was the end of this relationship, followed shortly by the rumor that his old childhood friend was now running the von Karma plantation, that made Phoenix get his head on straight. He applied and was accepted to University, graduating at the age of 24. He took a position in a law office after graduation, and has been involved in a number of criminal cases - including the one that led to the downfall of the head of the house of von Karma. It's this case that put him back in touch with his old childhood friend Miles, but he lost touch with him once again after the case ended. He has continued to work in the law office he joined after graduation during this time.
